SHINGLES VACCINATION
A shingles vaccine is available on the NHS for:
-
- Age 65: Individuals who turn 65 on or after September 1, 2025.
- Age 70-79: Anyone in this age group who has not previously received the vaccine.
- Immunocompromised: Adults aged 18 and over who have a severely weakened immune system or are about to start immunosuppressive therapy.
Special considerations for specific groups
-
Currently unvaccinated:
People aged 71 to 79 on September 1, 2025, who were previously eligible but have not yet been vaccinated can still receive it.
-
Previously vaccinated:
Those who had the Zostavax vaccine previously may be eligible for the Shingrix vaccine if they have since been diagnosed with a severely weakened immune system.
The vaccine helps reduce your risk of getting shingles.
If you get shingles after being vaccinated, the symptoms can be much milder.
Ask your GP surgery if you can get the vaccine on the NHS
